The Mumbles is one of Wales’s best kept secrets as a holiday destination. With stunning views over the clear waters of Swansea Bay, the Mumbles offers both a traditional seaside family holiday as well as a wide range of water sports to cater for the more adventurous younger groups. Kayaking and paddle boarding are just two of the water sports that can be enjoyed in the area. For those that don’t want to get their feet wet the bay can be enjoyed by cycling the excellent traffic free walk/cycle path that goes around the bay. Bicycles are available for short term hire all along the flat coastal path from the Mumbles to Swansea.

One of the Mumbles’ top attractions is Oystermouth Castle. It is located a short walk from the main shopping area in the Mumbles. The views from castle to the bay are fantastic.
Just a short walk around the headland brings you to Bracelet Bay and the start of the Gower peninsular, an area deserving of its accreditation as an area of outstanding natural beauty. You can walk/drive around the headland or go up into the nature reserve and walk over the hill as we did. What a great view you get from Mumbles Hill.
The tarmaced coastal path offers miles of safe walking with panoramic views every few hundred metres. It is a walkers’ paradise. We walked to Langland Bay.
The centre of the “village”, as the Mumbles is affectionately known to locals, is home to a multiplicity of wonderful restaurants. Connoisseurs of Italian food and ice cream will be particularly pleased. Verdis restaurant near the pier is a popular venue and booking is not required.
Mumbles lighthouse and pier stand at the end of the bay and provide great opportunities for sunset photos. The old RNLI lifeboat station remains, but has been replaced for operational use by a new station alongside it. The pier leading to the lifeboat station is popular with both people going for a stroll and anglers.
News of the Mumbles charm is leaking out and it can now get busy during peak holiday periods. It is definitely worth a visit. Book early so as not to be disappointed!
